John Chow

Mr. Chow is a proud San Francisco native, born at Chinatown’s Chinese Hospital and a graduate of Lowell High School. Known for his innovative problem-solving, sound judgment, strong leadership, and effective advocacy, he is an invaluable asset to the firm.

Mr. Chow earned his Bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley. During his time at UC Berkeley, he interned at the San Francisco District Attorney’s office, tutored peers in statistics, coached a high school summer basketball team that won their division title, and managed a 32-unit apartment complex while living on-site with fellow students. Graduating with honors, Mr. Chow was a student commencement speaker, delivering a speech on stage for his graduating class.

Continuing his education at UC College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings College of the Law), Mr. Chow earned his Juris Doctor degree with a focus on International Law. He expanded his legal education internationally by studying aboard at East China University of Political Science and Law in Shanghai and Temple University Japan in Tokyo, earning Certificates in Chinese Law and Japanese Law. Additionally, he gained insightful courtroom experience while interning for The Honorable Julie Tang and The Honorable Richard E. Best at the San Francisco Superior Court.

Before co-founding CCD Law Group, P.C. with Darius Chan, Mr. Chow honed his legal skills at several prestigious San Francisco law firms. His experience spans a large general practice firm with over 100 attorneys nationwide as well as a Chinese international firm representing publicly traded companies in China and Taiwan.

 

Mr. Chow is skillfully experienced in all facets of litigation, from case strategy, to discovery and depositions, to mediation, arbitration and trial. He has a proven track record of securing favorable court judgments and achieving strategic dismissals. This includes prevailing in heavily litigious cases at trial where the losing parties were ordered to pay for his clients’ attorney’s fees and costs, as well as getting courts to change their tentative rulings after delivering persuasive arguments to the contrary.

Mr. Chow is licensed to practice law in the state of California and before the Northern and Central Federal District Courts of California. 

 

Fluent in Cantonese, proficient in Mandarin, conversational in Japanese, as well as conversational in Spanish, Mr. Chow has a passion for learning about different cultures and languages. He has traveled to over 50 countries, and has lived in Hong Kong for over one year, Japan for five months, and China for four months. 

 

Mr. Chow enjoys supporting the local community. He has coached elementary, middle school and high school basketball teams for 11 years. He has also served on the Board of the Chinatown Community Children’s Center, one of San Francisco’s oldest non-profit early education centers, and on the Board of Family and Child Empowerment Services - San Francisco, which supports low-income families with early childhood development, job training, and family support.

 

Mr. Chow finds fulfillment in spending time with his family, cooking, playing pool, and reading books on personal growth and professional development. 

 

To balance the mental demands in the legal profession, Mr. Chow embraces physical and athletic challenges. Notable achievements include performing Jeet Kune Do with his martial arts team at the San Francisco Giants' Oracle Park during the Bruce Lee tribute night in 2018. Moreover, Mr. Chow completed an Olympic Triathlon in 2015, a Full Marathon in 2019, and a 100-mile bike ride in 2020. He has also tackled numerous Half Marathons, Tough Mudder, and Spartan Beast obstacle courses. Most recently, he hiked to the top of Peru’s Rainbow Mountain in 2024. He continues his training regimen for whatever challenges lie ahead.
